| TROPHY8 SUPER FANCY VICTORIAN FIGURAL ROWING TROPHY CUP ( quadruple silver plate ) | |||
| Date & Maker c1890 WILCOX MERIDAN #5225, USA | |||
| Description Spectacular & rare! Maybe not then but certainly now. Very hard to find a prime example of late 19th c "Trophy Art", particularly in this pristine "never engraved" condition. This one is pure fantasy, it has just about everything. Flowers, birds, Grecian lady, swirls, chains, oars, an anchor & more. All topped off with a boat of some sort, looks like a sardine boat with a sail to me. It has a rudder which is manned by one of the 2 Scotsmen sporting tam o' shanters. Fully marked of course. In addition to the usual stamped marks & raised pad is the word "GILT". | |||
| Condition SUPERB. Pristine. No loss to plate, no dents or scratches. I paid the price for this one, and happily so. | |||
| Comments An outstanding display piece! A cut above most trophies from that era. | |||
