| Date & Maker Washington Lafayette GERMON taken between 1859 & 1860 | |||
| Description Ivory
Prints appear to be at first glance paintings on reverse glass but are
actually paper photographs stuck to the reverse of the glass.
Various adhesives were used including wax which is the case here. You can

According to "Craig's Daguerreian Registry" 702 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia was the last of Mr. Germon's Studios. It was in operation for just 2 years which enables us to date this image. Please check out the Registry for more information on this prolific & versatile photographer & druggist. It is my understanding that he photographed the Mennonites, perhaps this sitter is one. |

| Condition Image: Excellent. The only flaw is a 0.75" line to the left of the sitter's bonnet, I believe it was caused by someone who previously removed the backing to investigate. In addition there is a 1" fine black line below the 1st one mentioned. Both are minor in my opinion. The hand-coloring to the bonnet, dress & tablecloth are well done & help to jazz up this handsome lady. The skin tones have been left untouched. They are orange, the color of the paper, as is her hair. The gilded Pine Frame is all original. No "new" gild added. Has a great look. A few cracks, some wear to high areas that's all. | |||
| Comments The 1st picture in the upper row shows the back of the photograph. Pictures 3, 5 & 6 show reflections. | |||
