| SOLD 1/2 PLATE TINTYPE IN SHADOW FRAME ID'd as MARY BELLE BOYLE | |||
| Date & Maker Dated 1871 Photographer unknown. Found in NY State. | |||
| Description The back of this unopened frame has the following ink inscription: Mary Belle Boyle, Wife of J.R. Forrest. A Tintype taken about or just before she was married in 1871. I suspect that this tintype was framed in the 1880s because it has some shallow bends & minor scratches which are not visible when viewed dead on. Had it been framed by the photographer's studio staff after it was finished, it would be pristine. Please note the interesting jewelry & Tartan Jacket the young Lady is wearing. The Highlander look. The image has excellent contrast, clarity & tonal range. The cheeks & lips are lightly tinted. | |||
| Condition The Tintype has minor flaws as mentioned above. The Frame is in fine condition with no loss to the gesso florettes except for 2 tiny ones that are missing on the inside & which are not flying around behind the glass. They must have been knocked off during framing. The blue velvet surround is perfect & not faded. Still sealed as mentioned earlier. | |||
| Comments The whole package is far more attractive than my photos convey. A hard item to scan & photograph accurately. | |||
| Size TIN: 5.5" x 4.5" as measured from the outside. Could be larger. Frame: 10' x 9" ( 14 x 11.5 and 25.5 x 23 cm ) | |||
