Condition Cover & Binding: The Album's tooled leather spine has been replaced by a professional bookbinder with excellent results. I bought it that way. I'm happy the trouble was taken to preserve this outstanding piece of Victoriana. The covers show scuffing & some loss to the top layer of the leather but all is there & sound. The gilded decorative edging is bright. The maker's name appears in tiny letters on the white moiré paper inside cover. The Brass Monogram is an entwined RMJ or JMR or MRJ and so on.
Condition Pages: HAND PAINTED with WATERCOLORS !!! Each design was first printed in light brown & then colored. I had a hard time finding the printed lines so accurate is the hand coloring. The pages & colors are far brighter than these scans. In order to show the mild foxing the pages became darker than they really are. All pages are bound with kid leather & turn with ease. Only 2 pages of 24 have a small tear.
Condition Overall: Very good to excellent. See above. The clasp is of high quality. It is decorated brass. The key is long gone which does not affect the locking mechanism. It opens & closes smoothly.
Comments I'm selling this reluctantly because my collecting focus has changed.
