| VA5 VICTORIAN CELLULOID PHOTO ALBUM "BATTLESHIP MAINE" holds 3 different photo formats | |||
| Date & Maker Patented July 23, 1895. Manufacturer unknown. Small paper label on back inside cover. | |||
| Capacity Room for 52 cab cards, 12 3.5" x 3.5" and 12 cartes de visite. | |||
| Condition Cover & Binding: The picture front is intact except where the title is (bottom center) I secured the celluloid edge with some antique brass trim. The velvet fuzz is pretty much gone as you can see. The back corners & edge have the wood show through from handling. The binding is sound & the pages turn well. | |||
| Condition Pages: Excellent considering that albums with these kind of pages did not hold up at all. Most pages here have small tears but no paper is missing. Some pages are mint. Please click on the images for a closer look. | |||
| Condition Overall: Fine. Would be nice to find one of those brass album stands with a drawer as this originally had. | |||
| Comments The Battleship Maine was destroyed Feb. 15, 1898 in an explosion in Havana Harbor. This incident precipitated the Spanish-American War and "Remember the Maine" became a patriotic slogan. At the lower left is the signature of the artist & the name of the lithographer. It also states "6682 Tons, 9293 H.P." | |||
