| DEC2 PAIR OF FINE BRONZE CANDELABRAS IN THE AESTHETIC TASTE | |||
| Date & Maker c1870 Maker unknown, France | |||
| Description This fanciful pair was originally purchased in Paris, France. I found (and lost it!!) an old ink written invoice in the small compartment behind the Ram's Head of one of the candelabras when I unscrewed the cover. They are gilded bronze mounted on red marble. Each bobeche is removable. All pieces were cast separately and then assembled. An unusual, stunning pair. | |||
| Condition Good overall but there are some issues. One of the 4 hanging medallions below the finials are missing. One marble base is cracked right through which causes the candelabra to wobble somewhat. That needs to be cemented by someone qualified. Both pieces should be tightened & balanced. The gilding to both is original. There is a discoloration to the middle section of the 2 side supports on the one having the marble damage. I have not attempted to re-guild it. | |||
| Comments This pair would look at home in the Brighton Pavilion. | |||
