DEC16 LARGE ANTIQUE PAINTING OF A TEENAGER
Date & Maker c1840-1850 un-attributed purchased in Spain in the mid-1960s
Description Guarded looking chap. Probably hated to pose but had no choice, he was told to "or else!" Painted with oils of muted tones on hand-woven canvass. The uppity young man is obviously from a well to do family.
Condition Very good. All original. Never cleaned, re-varnished or re-backed. Only damage is age related & involves some paint loss on the upper left corner where the canvass is beginning to thin. The painting is flat & doesn't require stretching. It does need a period frame though to show off this young aristocrat. What appears to be a bite out of the painting in photo 2, is a bit of foliage from the planter it is propped up against.
Comments Needs a lot of light to bring out the subtleness of shades.
